Bio:
Scott Reeves is a trombonist, alto flugelhornist, composer and educator.
He has performed at many New York City venues including Birdland, the
Village Vanguard, Smoke, the Iridium, Small¹s, Sweet Rhythm, the 55 Bar,
Cornelia St. Café and the Knitting Factory with groups such as the Dave
Liebman Big Band, Bill Mobley¹s Smoke Big Band, the Oliver Lake Big Band,
the Chico O¹Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Orchestra,
Manhattan Bones and his own quintet. He has also performed at leading
jazz clubs in Rome, Lisbon, Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto.
Scott has recorded with the Anthony Braxton Orchestra, two CD¹s with the
Dave Liebman Big Band, and Bill Mobley¹s Smoke Big Band, the latter two
that feature his arranging and trombone work. He also has three CD¹s
under his own leadership, ³Congressional Roll Call² with pianist Kenny
Werner and James Williams, Manhattan Bones¹ ³Tribute,² and ³Shape Shifter
Live at Cecil¹s², featuring tenor saxophonist Rich Perry. He is
currently working on a CD featuring his works for big band.
Scott textbooks on jazz improvisation, ³Creative Jazz Improvisation² and
³Creative Beginnings,² both published by Prentice-Hall, are widely used
in leading college jazz curriculums. His compositions and arrangements
have been performed by the BMI Jazz Composers Orchestra, the Smoke Big
Band, the Dave Liebman Big Band, the Kyoto Jazz Orchestra (Japan), the
Westchester Jazz Orchestra, Cecil¹s Big Band, Santa Cecilia Conservatory
in Rome, Manhattan School of Music and other collegiate and professional
ensembles.
In addition to his performing and writing activities, Scott is currently
Professor of Music at the City College of New York (CUNY). Previously he
was a professor at the Juilliard School of Music, Western Washington
University, Memphis State University, Virginia Commonwealth University
and the University of Southern Maine. He has also presented workshops and
clinics throughout the United States, Italy and Japan. Scott may be
